Never BS Yourself
In last week’s blog, we talked about how to seek advice, how best to analyze that advice, and how it’s ultimately your choice whether and how to use it.
While I don’t recommend bullshitting—whether in business communication with vendors, customers, employees, etc.—the reality is that it sometimes happens. When it does, there will be consequences, and you need to be very careful about how and when it's used. People tend to remember the truth when it’s spoken, and that’s certainly not the case when dealing in half-truths or deception.
While one might justify BSing others, NEVER BS yourself. Always be honest with yourself, no matter how difficult the situation may be. Make informed and timely decisions in the best interest of your company. Once that hard decision is made, it’s equally important to set a clear timetable and execution plan.
Once the plan is in motion, move forward carefully—regularly assessing how well your actions are delivering on your decision.
